History of the Edulis Food Group

HISTORY OF THE EDULIS FOOD GROUP

EDULIS FOOD GROUP was founded in 1974 with the opportunity to commercially develop the wild mushrooms that grow in the pine forests of South Africa's Eastern Highveld.
The Company negotiated exclusive mushroom harvesting rights with local forestry farmers in the areas of Amsterdam, Lothair and Warburton.

Having obtained the harvesting right for several local pine forests, the Company proceeded to purchase existing premises in the town of Amsterdam and to convert such premises into a Dehydration Plant.
The Amsterdam factory is still in existence today, having undergone the transformation into a state of the art, temperature controlled, Freezing Plant.

The Company traded on a successful, albeit low key, basis until 1994 when the family decided to develop the mushrooms operations into a regional group with an International marketing and distribution infrastructure.

In quick succession the Company established joint ventures in Swaziland, Zimbabwe and, very recently, Malawi.
It further established a successful operation in Kwa Zulu Natal in Himeville operating as Midlands Mushroom Farms.

In addition to the above, the Group has a network of distributors in all major markets and distributes and markets its products in North America through a subsidiary called Forest Products International LLC.
